Visit Newington Green Meeting House

Come and explore our elegantly renovated building and learn about the fascinating people and events that shaped its revolutionary history! Advance notice: NGMH public open days will end at 4pm, instead of 6pm as usual, on Thursday 28th June and Friday 29th June.

Admission is free and the space is fully accessible with an audio guide and stories and images throughout the building, showing the radical history of this community, and the local area. Take a look at our event programme for events such as film screenings, gigs, performances and talks.

Newington Green is well connected, especially through the TFL bus network.
- The 73 bus which leaves outside Kings Cross Station
- The 21 bus terminates at Newington Green
- The nearest station is Canonbury overground station which is a 10 minute walk to the Meeting House
- Newington Green is in walking distance from Dalston or Stoke Newington within 10 minutes
Newington Green Meeting House is now open to the public after extensive restorative build work. For the first time the building is open to the public with tours, developed and delivered by volunteers who can share with you the history, stories and people of the building and local area. Learn more about the building and its inhabitants’ radical history, pioneering architecture and revolutionary ideas.
Tours are approximately 30 minutes long and then you are free to explore the space, exhibitions and audio guide yourselves. The building is fully wheelchair accessible. Please help us cater the tour towards your interest and needs of the group by answering all the questions when booking.

The Meeting House building is, for the first time in its long history, accessible for wheelchair users and has a disabled toilet.
We also have an audio guide to learn about the building when you visit and are delivering community language tours.
We pride ourselves on being radically inclusive and among other initiatives, run (self-identifying) women-only opening days for example.

You can arrange private access to the Meeting House for your class on Monday and Tuesdays – free of charge

We offer a variety of options for your class to discover this important heritage site, and you can get in touch with our Programme Manager Amy Todd to discuss how we can best meet the needs of your learners.

Primary school visits comprise of:

A 30 minute tour around the green and Meeting House building – focusing on the story of Mary Wollstonecraft and the Dissenters and local history (15 students per tour)
Whilst some students take the tour – the other students will take part in a complimentary 30 minute workshop in our upstairs Mary Wollstonecraft room to prepare/consolidate their learning (and then groups swap – those on the tour then do the workshop and vice versa). This workshop is a creative activity like protest badge making, poster-making or banner making, getting learners to think about how they dissent today.
Students can then go around the building in small groups and learn more using our audio guides and interactive content
We have kitchen and lunch space – let us know if you want to use our spaces for lunch. Newington Green is just opposite us too if it is a nice sunny day!

A 40 minute tour around the green and Meeting House building – focusing on the story of Mary Wollstonecraft and the Dissenters and local history (15 students per tour)
Whilst some students take the tour – the other students will take part in a complimentary 30 minute workshop in our upstairs Mary Wollstonecraft room to prepare/consolidate their learning (and then groups swap – those on the tour then do the workshop and vice versa). This workshop is usually a debate style session where, inspired by the Dissenters – students practise their ‘rational dissenting’ and debate skills in a safe environment. Past debates have included topics such as ‘Radical change is needed in our governmental system’ and ‘We are doing enough to combat climate change’.
Students can then go around the building in small groups and learn more using our audio guides and interactive content
We have kitchen and lunch space – let us know if you want to use our spaces for lunch. Newington Green is just opposite us too if it is a nice sunny day!
